Welcome to Sonet Family Dental:

Thank you for considering our dental practice for your oral health care needs.  Dr. Ira M. Sonet and his warm and well-trained staff appreciate that choosing a new dental practice for yourself and your family is an extremely important decision.  We are not a large and impersonal office; rather, we have a very personable, small to medium sized dental practice whose major focus is on your overall oral health and comfort.

Dr. Sonet  is a fellow of the Academy of General Dentistry, and has an extensive background in all phases of general dentistry, including cosmetic dentistry (veneers, tooth-colored restorations, porcelain onlays, and porcelain crowns and bridges), as well as root canals, extractions, implant restoration and full mouth rehabilitation. "We welcome patients of all ages to our office, and we firmly believe in taking the time to educate our patients about all of the treatment options available to them when they are making decisions involving their dental health needs."

We use state-of-the-art equipment, including digital radiography and intra-oral photography routinely in our diagnostic and treatment procedures, and we strive to make our patients feel comfortable and confident in their decision to become a part of our dental practice.

For our patient’s convenience, we offer evening and Saturday hours, and we absolutely see emergency patients the same day.  Our experienced staff is fluent in English, Spanish and Portuguese, and we will map out individualized treatment and payment plans that work within the schedules, insurance parameters and budgets of our patients.

Services & Procedures

We provide a wide array of services and treatment options for our patients and their families, and have been doing so for over 26 years in the West Orange area.  Your overall health is always our first priority, and prevention of disease is a key component of our dental philosophy.  We are focused on providing care for our patients under the most comfortable, gentle and relaxed conditions possible, and our kind and professional staff will make you feel instantly “at home” in our office.  A great smile and pleasing esthetics are an important part of a person’s overall self-image, and we thoroughly enjoy seeing our patients leave our office looking and feeling happy and confident about themselves.

Complete Diagnosis
Diagnosing dental problems early (ie: gum disease, small cavities and fractured teeth or fillings) can turn potentially serious situations into easily treatable, and often, less expensive, solutions.  We use sophisticated modalities such as digital radiography and intra-oral photography routinely to detect and treat these problems efficiently, avoiding unnecessary discomfort and greatly reducing the need for invasive treatments.

Pedodontics & Preventive Dentistry
We believe in providing preventative dental care to all of our patients, but we strive to begin a preventative regimen as early in life as possible, for our youngest patients.  We use  a combination of fluoride treatments, to help strengthen teeth, and sealants, to fill in deep grooves and pits in the enamel, to help prevent tooth decay. We’ve been treating children for almost three decades, and our dental staff is wonderful with them and their parents, because we are keenly aware of the importance of that first dental visit.

Cosmetic tooth-colored fillings, inlays and onlays
Providing high-quality, beautifully matched fillings for diseased or broken teeth are wonderful options for dental patients today.  From small tooth-colored resin fillings to highly-impact resistant ceramic inlays and onlays, for teeth requiring larger and more extensive restorations,  we can achieve excellent esthetic results.

Crowns (caps) & bridges
Crowns (or caps) are non-removable, and are used to restore seriously weakened or broken down teeth.  A crown covers the entire tooth to provide it with long-lasting strength and pleasing esthetics.  Crowns can be porcelain with metal, all-porcelain or a CapTek  crown (highly esthetic crowns)  We provide all of the above, depending on the location of the tooth in question.  Bridges are a series of two or more crowns that are attached together to replace missing teeth.

Porcelain veneers and bleaching
Porcelain veneers are often placed in just two visits and can dramatically improve not only a patient’s dental esthetics, but can restore a person’s confidence in flashing a terrific smile.  Veneers (or laminates) are porcelain “facings” that are bonded to the front of a tooth; they can be used to brighten darkened teeth, close gaps between teeth, straighten crooked teeth and restore broken teeth.  We also offer bleaching, a popular,  and less expensive procedure for brightening teeth.

Dentures
Dentures can be either complete (fully replacing all of the missing teeth of an arch) or partial (replacing several missing teeth.)  We have long-term relationships with specialty denture labs that fabricate highly esthetic partial and full dentures for our patients.

Implant Restoration
Implants are non-removable bio-compatible “platforms” that are used to restore areas of the mouth that are missing teeth. They are carefully inserted into the jaw bone, and  can be used to replace a single tooth, as well as several teeth, eliminating the need to involve otherwise healthy teeth in the process.  We work closely with some of the best periodontists (gum specialists) in Essex county; the periodontist performs the surgical placement phase and we provide the final matching crown or restoration over the implant.

Endodontics (root canal treatment)
Most root canal treatments are performed routinely and comfortably in our office, and take only between one to two visits.  If we cannot perform your root canal in our office, we will make sure that you are referred to a specialist who will complete your treatment in a comfortable and expeditious manner.

Periodontics (gum treatment)
Gum disease (also known as periodontal disease or pyorrhea) can be a serious and often overlooked disease process that can lead to tooth loss as well as systemic medical problems.  Often, a deep scaling or root-planing can be performed by Dr. Sonet or his staff to remove the underlying plaque and bacteria that can lead to periodontal disease, allowing swollen and bleeding gums to return to normal health.  If your gums are swollen, bleeding or painful, don’t wait  to make an appointment.

Oral Surgery (extractions)
There are instances when a tooth cannot be saved and an extraction is indicated.  After an extraction is performed, we take the time to offer what we feel are the best options noted above for tooth replacement.  In most cases, there is often more that one option to restore a patient’s dentition to proper form, structure and esthetics.

Same Day Emergency Care
We are very sensitive to patients experiencing tooth pain, and we encourage patients with a dental emergency to call our office and come in the same day, often within 1-2 hours from when they call.
