Glen Ridge Promotes Music in the Schools
By Stefanie Jackowitz Published: 12/10/2009
In an effort to keep the arts alive, the Glen Ridge Music Parents Association will be collecting donations in an effort to replace broken school instruments, and to purchase new ones that are unavailable for student rentals.
“Project Oom-Pah-Pah” aims to enhance the instrument collection at the Glen Ridge Schools, keeping up with the growing number of students involved in middle school and high school concert band, marching band, or jazz ensemble.
According to the Glen Ridge Voice, the number of students enrolled in the Glen Ridge instrumental music program has tripled over the past eight years.
“We want our students to feel good with whatever it is that they are playing,” says Kevin Lagos, the director of bands at Glen Ridge High School, who hopes that students interested in instruments like the bassoon, oboe, piccolo, or tuba will have the opportunity to play them.
Donations can be mailed to the Glen Ridge Music Parents Association, P.O. Box 203, Glen Ridge, NJ 07028. For more information, call Margaret McGrath at 800-735-1418.
