Decorating on Your Budget
By Scott Krady Published: 11/05/2009
Is your living room still stuck in the 70s—orange shag rug and all—but you’re afraid a total redesign will be too costly? Take heart: a fresh design that reflects your taste today may cost much less than you imagine, according to Valerie Ruddy, owner of Interiors by Decorating Den.
Backed by a 500-member franchise network—and a dedication to meeting each customer’s needs—Decorating Den can work its magic on everything from drapes for a single window to an entire home redesign. Its clientele includes large companies as well as young couples decorating a first home.
Specialists in window treatments (which comprise 40 percent of its business), Decorating Den also offers furniture, lighting, wall and floor covers, upholstery and accessories, Ruddy says. Her Montclair and Verona-area company, part of the 40-year-old Decorating Den franchise, can tap into a network of preferred suppliers and manufacturers—including top names such as Kravet, Hekman, Summer Classics, and Hunter Douglas.
Yet Ruddy doesn’t limit herself to those sources. She’ll search out the best products for her clients, whether from large design houses or local craftspeople. And she’ll present a range of options—from manufacturers’ preset items to a customer’s heirloom rocking chair—in her designs.
“We don’t design at you, we design with you,” Ruddy stresses. “Whether it’s your home or business, our top priority is a satisfied customer. We don’t rest until you are happy with your design.”
Because time is tight for many customers, Decorating Den comes to your home. “Most of my clients are very busy and don’t have the time to be out shopping,” the owner notes. “Whether it’s handling the installation or shipping and receiving, we make it easy for them.” And Ruddy creates timelines for clients during the design planning phase, ensuring that all aspects of a job are taken care of at a pace comfortable for each customer.
And for those that don’t know where to start, Ruddy offers free workshops and seminars on
topics such as holiday decorating, eco-friendly decorating, and accessorizing.
What draws customers back time and again to Decorating Den? “We listen to what they want,” Ruddy says. From the inception of any design project, she works with customers to set parameters that fall in line with their budgets—and develops design plans that suit personalized
lifestyle needs.
“We create designs that are beautiful and functional,” she notes, “so my clients can enjoy the place where they live or work.” After all, she continues, “your interiors are the place you come home to. They need to be your sanctuary.”Interiors by Decorating Den
